Incorrectly Reported Restore Size - Unable to restore [Easily]

So I got Windows 7 tweaked and updated exactly as I wanted it after a fresh installation. I thought it would be a good idea to make a backup with AOMEI Backupper for obvious reasons. So I made a backup of my entire SSD. 


Of course, I needed to make sure that this backup worked before relying on it. So after assuring I had my user files backed up safely along with the AOMEI image, I wiped my SSD. 


Next I stuck the WinPE AOMEI boot media in the system and loaded it up. I found my image and clicked on restore, entered my password, and it automatically detected it was a system backup. It prompted me if this was the case, and I confirmed. Next I tried to select which drive I wanted it to go to, and it says that the backup file is TOO BIG for this disk. Of course, this is ridiculous, as I had literally just made a backup... 


After an insane amount of hoop jumping: needing a Linux livecd, and Windows 7 installer (to repair boot), I managed to get it restored by (this is long story short) creating a 110MB (using exactly 100MB wouldn't work) partition with Linux, as well as the rest of the drive as another partition. Then instead of restoring all at once as a system restore, I just restored each partition seperately. Luckily this did the trick, however then the system wouldn't boot. So I had to get another computer and create a Windows 7 installer USB, and use their repair boot option to have it discover the installation on the drive, and re-establish it. 


So what the heck happened? Why in the world would the image say it was bigger than the drive? It's the exact same drive.


There must be an error somewhere in this program. This needs some looking into.. and I'm lucky I got it all back. I guess I could have pulled all the files from the backup after manually re-installing Windows.. but that would have been a pain. This program has one major thing it needs to do, and it failed in doing so. I feel I can no longer trust AOMEI Backupper for my backup needs, after this nightmare of an experience. Figuring out the workaround above took hours and hours, jumping from system to system, etc. I don't wish this on my enemies!


Below are photos I took which detail the problems I was seeing. I took these AFTER I got back into Windows.. and tried to see if the actually Windows version (not PE) would fare any better. Clearly it didn't, as it shows the exact same problem as I had in the WinPE.

I have installed AOMEI PE Builder 1.0. Great product but I'm havin trouble with the following.

1. I cant get the network drivers to load I am testing On a Vbox machine. I have added(I think?) the required drivers.

2. can you elaborate more on how exatly to add other tools i.e. virus scanners etc.

HELP.Merge Partitions has made my D drive unaccesible:currupt and unreadable

Hello,

Please help!! I allocated about 60GB from my C drive and wanted to add id to my D drive on which I had 218GB of mostely family photos. I opted for the AOEMI Merge Partition option between the new Unallocated partition and the D partition.

I didn't backup.... :(

In the middle of the procees it announced that there is a problem (I think # 25, it said something about the procees failing and having to fix some problems and then try again). The D disk is unavailable an I'm afraid that all information on it is now lost... When I try to reach it from Windows (I have Windows 8) it says that it is unaccesible and that the structure is currupt and unreadable. When I look at its prperties from the AOEMI it seems as is the 218GB are empty...t

Please could you know what the problem might be? I desperately need your help.

All my photos from the last 2 years are there. Pleaaaaasseee.

I would appreciate your prompt reply.

AOEMI Backupper - Error reinstating from backup

Hello admin,


I posted a few weeks ago on a post

(http://www.aomeitech.com/forum/discussion/495/found-download-backupper-1-6)
as I had a simliar issue to the author - I am told the back up file
cannot be opened as it is either corrupt or created using an earlier
version of your software. I downloaded your program and made the back up
in mid-June, are you able to provide the older version of your software
which will be able to open the file? I am using 2.0.1 now which cannot
open it.

I get an error Single file is too big - Information Code:4162 while trying to restore. Please note that I am using NTFS (both original and new destination for restore) on a Win7 PC, HDD formatted as NTFS.

Your help will be appreciated.

please tell me you know how to fix this condition.

I had moved my Win 8.1 partition to the left to resize the drive with your free edition standard partition assistant.

After a restart, my pc apparently needs repairs. When trying to load windows the screen reads as follows:

RECOVERY

Your PC needs to be repaired.

A required device isnt connected or cant be accessed.

Error code:0xc0000225

 

something about using the useless recovery tools of which none of them worked, to try using installation media which failed as well and finally suggesting if all else fails contact your admin.

 

Press enter to try again

Press F8 for startup settings

Press F9 to use a different OS

 

none of these options work out either.

 

My new PC had XP on a partition to the left of win8

I used windows disk manager and deleted formatted removed reallocated whatever in an attempt to extend win8 part to the left. All the while reading warning messages about the left partition being a boot part, active part or whatever.

Windows had been dual booting giving a choice of either XP or Win8, but that didnt bother me as I was committed to killing XP for the space.Then I found out about the left partition limitation windows disk manager has. Still didnt occur to me that windows would nott have re-written what ever file it needed to to operate correctly.

Then your software does the impossible and move C: part all the way across the drive. It asked if I was serious and willing to commit several times before restarting and bricking my new win8 pc.

The sequence of events goes as follows.

1. Deleted XP partition that was to the left of Windows 8.1 C: partition. The realized "extend partition" was still unavailable because it was on the right of ...

2. Found Aomeitech software and used it efectively or so I thought.

3. Aomei restarted my pc at which point Windows took on updates I was unaware of.

4. Lost Windows 8.1


Attempted command line repairs to what is now called BCD. I tried things like the following based on walk thoughs found online. In no special order.

bootrec /rebuildbcd

bcdedit /export c:\bcdbackup

attrib c:\boot\bcd -h -r -s

ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old

ect ect..

After all failed, I typed ren c:\boot\bcd.old bcd as I am now in a panic and dont know what I am doing anymmore.

I am now on my wife stupid little laptop and I hate it.

Please help me get back on my fullsized pc before I throw this one against a wall.

Backupper System backup - 50% complete & 16 disks?

I'm doing a System Backup on a laptop with 4 partitions and 44 GB of data.  I'm just over half done and on my 16th disk.  Is this normal??

Good day, I have Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate English, and when I made *.iso file and booted from it, half of the menus were on russian. Maybe it because I use programs on russian and for more compatibility I did this:

Can you make an update in future and fix this problem, because I need that menus in *.iso file will be all in English.

I can say that PE builder Bate did every thing in English with no problem.

Disk clone does not recognize source drive (system disk)

Hi All,

Since yesterday I tried to clone my current HDD as this drive has some bad sectors and I want to replace it. This is a 500GB drive that will be replaced by a 750GB HDD. I wanted to use Disk clone for this, but when selecting the source my current 500GB is not listed there.

In Computer management both drives are recognized. See below.

The copy drive I created using partition clone, but this gives me error "0xc000000f -- The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible" when I start up the system using the copied drive.

That is why I want to use Disk clone to see if that can make it work.

Do you guys have any suggestions for this problem? Or maybe suggestions on how to get the 0xc000000f error resolved?

Backupper options when Win 7 system drive going bad

I'm needing to replace SATA Win7 system drive with new SSD drive because bad sector errors are starting on SATA drive.  I already have a fully up-to-date System Backup on an external drive through Backupper standard and have created Bootable CD using Backupper.

As I understand it, I should be able to swap out the SATA drive for the SSD drive, boot the PC with the Bootable CD, and then System Restore via Backupper.  However, I cannot verify whether or not Backupper is on the Bootable CD because Windows File Explorer won't let me look at the files on the CD (which was created via the ISO foption).  So do I need to place Backupper on my internal D: drive?  If so, is it safe to uninstall Backupper, and reinstall telling it to install on the D: drive?  (It won't let me install a second version on the D: drive.)

I've also been reading that maybe Disk Clone is an option.  What are the benefits of Disk Clone in this situation?  I don't have a clone image, and would need a new external drive to create that.  And I assume I'll have the same issues viz-a-viz the Bootable CD.  Any thoughts?

Migrating OS to SSD from HHD

Hello all....I am trying to replace a 1TB HHD with a 240G SSD, for the operating and basics, and use the HHD for storage.

Trying to us the Migrate OS to SSD wizard, but it's telling me that their isn't enough memory. That I need the current size of the HHD (440 G). I just want to move the OS. Why would it say I need so much space and how can I fix this?

Backupper Standard 2.0.2 FREE edition asking for Registration/Buy/Upgrade ( Expiration notice/bug? )

Hi, i was looking for a descent backup utility, and Aomei looked a quite powerfull, usefull and friendly user interface program, however i run into 1 problem, if i try the free version ( standard edition 2.0.2 ) it suddenly asks for registration ( buy the Pro version ) , i get the "Trial expiration notice" , and i cant recover or backup aymore ( within Windows that is ) , i tried it on several systems, new installations, all the same...

Any1 else have this problem? ( bug??) , on the homepage it says clearly "freeware" , not TRIAL, and even after using/testing 3 recovery's i already get the msg.
I emailed the helpdesk and they are friendly and all, but quite slowly, i need to make a decision soon to choose a new backup program ( im an Acronis user for years now ) , and im postponing backups atm already, so i post here on the forum to find a quick solution.

Clone not copying the boot loader

Hi all,

 

We have a number of CNC machines here and we keep a spare PC for each one to make sure we can get up and running quickly should we have a PCfailure.

 

To make sure the machine settings are up to date, every month we make a clone of the drive, put this in the spare PC and then put the spare PC in the machine.  We then have the working original on the shelf if needed. (this then becomes the spare)

 

We have been using clonezilla to make the clones but this is quite complicated and we have had a few failures recently.

 

Aomei looks very simple to use but we cannot get the cloned drive to boot without using the win7 CD to make a repair to the missing or corrupt bootloader.  (this is the message windows is reporting when trying to power up the PC)

 

Am I doing something wrong that prevents Aomei from copying the bootloader?

 

To do the clone I am booting from a bootable Linux CD made from the utilties option in backupper standard (V2.0.2) on a PC that we only use for cloning.  We have had problems trying to clone Win7 & Win XP systems.

Partition Assistant: Unable to assign drive letter after trying splitting partitions

Hey guys I have a problem with Partition Assistant.

On a
laptop the C:\ (Disk) and D:\ (DVD+RW). The C:\ is 300GB with just 40 GB
of files. I wanted to splipt the partition C to 100GB and the other
partition to have the rest 200 GB.

1) I launched the partition
assistant and clicked the "split partition". I adjusted the size fo the
new partition and left the assigned letters as is (C:\ 100GB, E:\200)

2) It prompt me that it has to reboot to complete operation
3) It rebooted and started the procedure. Then after a while it stoped with the following message
"Unable to assign drive letter "

and nothing to fix it just to reboot.

When I rebooted, windows could not load and was stack in the following screen:

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart.
2. Choose your language settings, and the click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."

So my questions are :

1) What did go wrong so that I can avoid this situation

2) How can I fix this

3) Are my files safe ?

Failed to send Email using AOMEI system

Quick preface, I've been looking for a lower cost alternative for my clients, individuals and small business less than 5 people. 

I'm very happry so far with the program but the last install on a Windows 8 Dell desktop PC will not send an Email using the AOMEI email system. There dosen't appear to be any error code. Are there any ports that need to be opened for this? 

Or is there other methods to determin the problem>?

Hi, I am currently trying to migrate my OS to a new SSD. I use the wizard to set it up, press apply but all it does is restart my system and nothing else. There are no error messages given at any point.

Hey I wanted to convert my GPT HDD to an MBR HDD (just to test it).

And I received this error "The file (2Gpt_BCD or 2Mbr_BCD) may be lost, we suggest you to reinstall AOMEI software and try again.

This error comes from a live CD mounted on my USB-Stick.

information code 4160

My scheduled incremental backup for last night did not successfully run, citing information code 4160 (about which I can find no info on the website). There was very little info, and in the absence of a backup log (which would be very helpful), I have no idea of the problem. I successfully ran a full backup a week ago to the same destination location on an external drive. My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1.
