Seen this a couple of times now...when trying to create a system image backup AOMEI Backupper stops working.

Checking the Application Log in Windows Event Viewer I see this:

How to restore a system image correctly when starting from bootable media

$

When doing a system restore from inside Windows using the AOMEI Backupper GUI that's very easy since it will show both the image and the destination disk in the same way containing two partitions each...one 500 MB partition called 'System Reserved' and then your normal system/Windows partition.

However if I would like to perform a system restore by using the bootable media I first select the system image I want to restore but in the next step I can only choose one partition. I find this confusing since I know the image contains two partitions (as mentioned above). Haven't tried to actually do a system restore using the bootable media but would like to know exactly how this is done correctly should I need it one day.

I guess I just select the normal system/Windows partition and then both partitions in the image will be restored to that partition but that will then leave me with one orphaned 'System Reserved' partition on the destination disk or am I missing something?

Would be great with some clarification.

Thanks in advance!

Dear Crew,

I've tried to upgrade the Backup Pro Version 3.0 program to the new 3.1 version but after installing it my computer (win8.1) doesn't want to boot anymore it just tries to boot over and over ..so i was very lucky to have Onekey installed too ..after restoring it it works well again.  For your information I installed it 7 times now then restarting the computer and it failed also 7 times  ...  I was only upgrading the Backupper program ... so the problem must be caused by the V3.1 program.......

If you need more info then pls let me know .... Regards Hanzo

Windows Update does not work in new SSD Drive

I have Windows 7 Professional. I used Partitions Assistant to migrate to an SSD drive. Every thing works fine except when I try to do a Windows Update on the new drive, I get the following message:

“Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer.”

Windows Update does work in my original hard drive. I also tried cloning the hard drive with Acronis and got exactly the same results.

Error 4105 'Not enough memory to process this command"

Receiving the 4105 error during backup at around the 85% complete level.  It's a relatively new install of Windows Server 2008 (2 weeks ago).  The C-drive backs up fine, the error occurs on the RAID 5 D-drive (6 TB, <100 GB in use.  Chkdsk was clean on both drives.  The machine has 32 GB of memory, and no other programs were using it other than Backupper and Windows (almost all was free).  What should I do?

I have backuper 2.5 free edition and cannot figure out how to unlock the system clone feature following the instructions. I  copy and shared to my facebook page and when I paste the shared address as instructed( whicjh is the facebook page address the message is being posted to I guess?), I get a error message that says keyword not found. What address is required? Thank you.

Data Backupper BootCD only for the computer where it was created?

I created with v3.1 on Win7 64bit a Data Backupper BootCD on computer 1. Later I put this BootCD into DVD drive on computer 2 (with 64bit Win7 as well) and try to boot from it.

Unfortunately I was prompted for keyboard layout and if I want to do a win7 system restore here.

No "usual" Data Backupper program GUI was shown.

Why?

Can I only use a BootCD on the computer on which it was originally created or is such a BootCD computer independent?

Why does the BootCD not show the Backupper GUI?

Does partition resizing physically move other partitions?

$

Hi,

I have lot of bad sectors on disk. I'll try to logically isolate them by creating a hidden partition that physically resides on that bad area. So, I have a good partition at the beginning, then a bad hidden partition and unallocated space.

The question is: If I extend the first good partition will the subsequent bad partition physically moved so it does not include bad sectors anymore? If yes, so I must probably instead of extending create a new partition in the unallocated space. Or does someone have a better hit how to logically isolate bad sectors from Windows. The problem is that windows CHKDISK and FDISK do not find those bad sectors and are trying to use those anyway.

Auto-remove entry links on "Home" tab to non-existing backup archives?

$

Assume I create a backup from my C: partition and let it store (by Data Backupper) on the D: partition.

After that the new *.adi backup file appears as new backup archive entry on the "Home" tab.

If I later delete manually this backup (in booted Win 7 WinExplorer) and restart Data Backupper then this backup link still exists on the "Home" tab.

Can I somehow tell Data Backupper to re-scan the current computer and check if all the backup files are still existing and automatically remove non-existing?

If this is currently not possible: Can this feature be added in the next release?

Thank you

Peter

restore a GPT system drive

I understand that I can image/backup a System (c drive) that is UEFI and GPT.

I read the instructions to restore that image to create a Linux bootable cd.

Do I have to boot into the BIOS first and change to Legacy boot mode, then use the Linux CD to finish the restore?

Thanks,

This is a new build for me and I have not finished or installed win 8.1 as a UEFI, so I cannot try out AOMEI yet.

AOMEI Partition Assistant will not Convert GPT to MBR (1.3 TB Drive)

I have a 1,3TB disk that is GPT and want to convert it to MBR so I can use it as my boot disk. I have placed the drive in a USB Dock connected to a computer running AOMEI Partition Assistant. As per the tuorial I right click on the disk in AOMEI Partition Assistant, but it does not show the option to convert. The only place I see that option is on the main menu under Tools. There it says MBR/GPT Convert All items on that menu are greyed out.

I am running Windows 7 on an older computer with a normal bios (No UEFI).

Help!

Thanks.

Can't see a network drive

After last week's hassle with asking for a password to a network drive now AB can't even see the drive, ie it doesn't appear in the list when I click on "PATH".  The drive is fully functional, no changes have been made to AB so what could be happening?  A failed backup is worse than no backup as it tends to be relied on.

Aomei Backupper Error 4110

$

So I've been using version 2.2 since January of this year with no
problems whatsoever, but when 3.0 came out I decided to give the update a
go (big mistake) despite non-stop issues I've seen from people since
2.2.  The minute I did that my daily backups instantly refused to verify
with: Error 4110 failure to decode, whatever that means.  I've been
backing up my Corsair Neutron SSD > External WD 2TB drive perfectly
fine before the upgrade and then it suddenly wont verify any backups
after the upgrade.

I tried downgrading to 2.8, 2.5,
back to 2.2.  Now all of them are broken in the same manor.  Version
doesn't even matter anymore.  Tried googling the issue and looking
through the forums, with no real solution to the problem or what the
problem even means.  One solution said they had luck with turning off
compression.  Did that and it worked for a few daily backups and then
today its spitting out the Error 4110 again and any backup now refuses
to verify.  I've tried mounting this failed backups and I just get a
blank unformatted drive when over the past couple of days the image
would load and I could browse through it like you normally would.

WHAT
IS GOING ON!?  I don't feel like I can ever trust the product anymore
even if I manage to fix it because the confidence has been destroyed.
I've used about a dozen products through testing over the past 3 years
and this one seemed like the best, except this is the only program I've
used that has ever given me these serious issues.  Not verifying is
fine, but when mounting and no data is there when this happens, that's a
problem.

I've tried restarting the machine multiple
times.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled various versions countless
times.  I've ran chkdisk with no errors reported.  Ran a defrag on my
external.  Ran HDTune on both drives.  Nothing is popping up and since
this only started after upgrading from 2.2 > 3.0 and now for every
version it leads me to believe that something is broken on the software
side of things.  I've tried all the tips from the threads I could find,
but it seems like nobody has an answer or even has this problem, let
alone the details on what this error means are vague.

Can't remove mounted drives after Explore Image

$

Hi

I am using Backupper v2.2 and Windows 8.1 and tried to use the Explore Image feature. The feature mounted 2 drives (E:/ and F:/) to explore the images. These didn't work (when you click on them it says Device not ready).

Also I can't remove them now from Windows Explorer.

I can see them in Explorer. http://i.imgur.com/yDjmKir.png

but I can't see them in Disk Management to remove them.

Also your instructions say you can go back to Explore Image in Backupper and it will give the option to dismount the drives however it doesn't give this option, instead it offers to mount the images to drives G: and H:.

How can I dismount these drives?

Information code:4101 - Failed to create file

With latest Backupper v3.1 when I try to do a disk backup over the network, starting the PC with a WinPE USB key, I obtain the error "Information code:4101 - Failed to create file".

The remote computer that should host the image file is a Windows 7 with a share on the system partition.

After selecting "Disk Backup" (Step1) I select the remote share (Step2->Share/NAS) and enter all the data needed to connect to the share. Finally after having chosed the desired folder (please note that I'm able to browse the remote shared folder) I start the backup...everything seems fine but after a few second the process stop with the following message:

Backing up data...

Information code:4101

Failed to create file.

I tried so many times, with different combinations (using IP address instead of the name, etc) but everytime the same error. I tried also previous releases of the Backupper, still starting from a WinPE based usb key and I discovered that the backup to a remote Windows 7 share works fine up to the v2.5, whereas v2.8 is the first release with this kind of issue.

One more detail: all the Backupper release I tried are able to complete a backup over the network if I select a NAS (based on Nas4Free - Freebsd v9 running SAMBA) share as the remote device. This is true also for the latest v3.1 release. Quite confusing...

Hope you can fix this issue, Backupper is a very nice piece of software!

asking for a password to access public seagate central drive

Asking for a password to access public seagate central drive.  Until last week Aomei Backupper worked well.  After an attempted scheduled back up this morning it showed an error that it was unable to see the storage drive.  Now it is asking for a password to a public sector of my Seagate Central network drive.  There is no password for this sector.  Not inserting a password gives a "password invalid" error. Any clues anyone?

questions about cloning/imaging

Can I clone from a system (C drive) that has the OS size of lets say 20GB on a 256GB SSD to another partitioned drive that might only be a 50GB partition?

In other words does the source drive and target drives have to be the same size for cloning irrespective of the size of the OS on the source drive.

I believe that I can image the source drive to another drive that are different sizes as long as the target drive is large enough for the image
