limitations of the Standard Edition

$

I see two main circumstances when restoring is salvational for normal computer users:

#1 To undo our (or some devil's) mess ups to the system
#2 To get quickly back to work when our computer or drive is replaced

Aomei Backupper Standard Edition works beautifully in case #1.  It's saved my bacon more than once.  Case #1 is much more common than case #2, but case #2 does occur.  My question is whether a system backup made with the Standard Edition works in case #2.  For me case #2 divides into three scenarios:

A. a new SSD replaces my old SSD in my computer
B. a new computer (with a new SSD) replaces the old, the new hardware being like the old
C. a new computer (with a new SSD) replaces the old, the new hardware being unlike the old

Will the Standard Edition work in scenarios A, B, C?  Or will it refuse to restore?  Or will it restore but the restore refuse to boot?

Aomei Backupper Professional Edition says it can:

Migrate OS from HDD to SDD, SDD to SDD, HDD to HDD,
or SDD to HDD without reinstalling Windows and
applications while ensuring system will be bootable after
migration.

So the Professional Edition is sure to work for scenario A, and maybe for B and maybe for C.  Since the Professional Edition is advertised with this migration ability, and the Standard Edition isn't, should we assume that the Standard Edition can't ever save us when our computer or drive is replaced?

Final, practical question.  If the Professional Edition is necessary to save us when our computer or drive is replaced, can we plan to buy it if and when those cases arise?  That is, if we make system backups now, using the Standard Edition, can the Professional Edition be used later restore those backups to the new computer or drive?

Awaiting authoritative answers,

Backup schedules ignored

Hello!

I got the backupper pro trial version and it keeps completely ignoring scheduled backups.  It just doesn't do anything, neither at a set time nor at system shutdown or start (It did work one single time on shutdown, on maybe the 3rd shutdown, but nothing since then). Backing up manually works. Cdp file sync as well. I'm on Windows 10. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Daniel

Backupper Standard fails to run scheduled task, reboots instead!

I can no longer backup my devices using scheduled tasks.
Manually starting a incremental backup works fine.
It seems that this is since I upgraded to Backupper Standard V4.6.2 on January 27. 2019 but a system update could be a reason.
This has worked before but I can not say for sure when it occured first.

I set up the schedule to backup in the night at 01:30. When I check in the morning there is no backup on the destination and the system has rebooted at 01:31.

The system is a laptop with W10 home 1803, 16GB memora and
a 250 GB internal SSD system disk (Disk 1)
a 2000 GB internal HD data disk (Disk 0)
a 4000 GB external USB backup disk

I start with a disk backup of Disks 0 and 1 and than set up the schedule.
I already did a second Disk Backup Disk Backup(2) and set up a new schedule for it but all I get is a reboot.

Neither in the logfiles in the AOMEI Installation path nor in the system event logs I was able to fing a hint about the cause of this problem.

All Backup jobs gone

Backupper Pro 4.6.2 on Windows 10 Prof

All Backup-Jobs gone on two machines.
Backups themselve are still there, but no warning about the stopped scheduled backup-process for nearly a week.
Just found this issue by chance.

As AOMEI-backupper had this issue some versions before and offered an update then, I think they do have the same problem now (again and again) ...

3 Aomei Problems

Right now, Backupper is experiencing 3 major problems for me and it appears for others from the posts on this forum.

1. All created backup sets are being deleted from the home page without user interaction. This occurs multiple times.
2. Blue screens, restarts or complete PC lockups are occurring at the time of a scheduled backup and the backups are not being created with no log file to indicate the backup was not successful.
3. Multi VSS errors are occurring and can be seen in the Windows Event Viewer every time a backup is performed. The VSS writers are being disabled for other Windows functions that require them because of this.

@admin Please take note of these problems. At this time I've discontinued using Backupper until these problems can be addressed and noted as fixed in future updates. Thank you.

Recovering folders

I'm trying to follow the FAQ to select folders from a disk backup. I don't seem to be able to get the drop down menu to select files and folders. Is it because I'm trying to restore from a backup done on a Windows 7 system to Windows 10?

Information Code 4118 while cloning bitlocker encrypted SSD with Backupper v4.5.2 Standard

Thank you so much for providing this excellent free of charge software.
I have been using it for several years without any significant problems.

Recently the system SSD on my company notebook has been bitlocker encrypted.
Ever since then I can no longer clone it to an identical SSD neither over eSATA nor over USB3.
I am trying to clone from windows (not with a bootable medium).

The cloning process seems to start but after a few seconds it terminates with this error message.
The error text says (translated from German): "not enough space for temporary files available"
I can't find any description of this error code on your website.

My SSD is 500GB with only 200GB used
There are 8GB of RAM available.
The notebook is running on Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64Bit

I would be thankful for any suggestions to solve this problem.

Best regards from Germany
Jürgen

Laptop won't boot after full disk image restore

My laptop will not boot. The error msg says:

"Reboot and select proper boot device..." so apparently it is not recognizing my hard drive as a boot device.

Here's what happened.  My laptop had a motherboard failure, but the HDD seemed okay.  I removed it and put it in a USB enclosure and performed a full disk image backup with Backupper onto an external drve.

I reinstalled the HDD in the laptop and sent it for repair.  It came back with a new motherboard, and the original HDD reformatted to a factory Windows 10 install.

I backed that install up with Backupper, and then attempted to restore my original disk image.  It appeared to complete okay.  But...

When I tried booting, I got that message above.  I checked the BIOS, and it lists the HDD as first boot device.

I have repeated the restore a few times, using a USB restore drive created from Backupper on another computer.  (Specified to legacy BIOS.)  I made sure to specify Universal Restore.  I restored each partition separately, specifying Universal Restore each time, and making sure the main drive was C:.  I still get "Reboot and select proper boot device."

The BIOS screeen still lists the HDD as the first boot device.  "Launch CSM" is Enabled.

I hope someone can help.  I am at wit's end. I am using the Professional version, by the way.
Thanks.

I have installed the Backupper Pro edition trial so that I can evaluate the added features. I see that they are locked out without a registration key. Is this correct or is there a way to use the features with the trial? I am interested in the Clone features.

Problem creating bootable DVD on Win 10

Win 10 does not have native DVD writing software.  I use Burn Aware, but you have to drag/drop a file into it to burn it.  That won't work with Aomei.  Is there a way around this problem?  If I try to use a thumb drive as a USB boot device, what size would I need?  Is it likely to work, when the DVD option doesn't?

Bug: Disk Backupper Freezes the System

Hi,
my system freezes completely while trying to make disc image backups from my system drive (full backup).
I use Windows 10 x64 on a lenovo ThinkPad T540p, and a Samsung SSD with basic disc layout.
The Problem is independent of using VSS or AOMEIs own alternative.
Backupper writes around 25 MB to the external (USB3) hard drive, and according to Windows Resource Monitor it reads a lot of data with maximum speed from system-ssd, but don't write anything to the target drive. After some minutes Backuper stops reading from source-ssd. The system drive is somehow completely locked for any writes, but system tasks reads data from the disc. Because of the ongoing write lock the system freezes and i need to make a hard reset. I am somehow perplexed.

Thank you for any help.

Backupper Pro 4.6.2 Bugs

Trying to create a bootable media. But it hangs at initializing (waited several times more than a halve an hour.
.
Then tried to uncheck  Download WinPE creating environment from Internet, but no reaction it stays checked. Downloading from https://www.aomeitech.com/win-pe.html is useless, because unchecking download from internet is not possible, so it will not create it from local drive.

Send SMS to +41 ............... does not work at all. tried a coupple of time but did not yet get an SMS.

If you have a dual monitor system and move the user interface to the second monitor, then it is not possible to move vertically, only horizontally.

I have reported the last two errors to support. abut it was not fixed in 4.6.2

Hi,

Is there any way to do a silent install for technician plus ver 4.6.2 and also supply the license key. I have seen the following:
ABTechnicianPlus.exe /VERYSILENT /NORESTART /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /SP-  /LOADINF="PARAM.INF" /LOG="LOG.TXT"
Where the inf files contains:
[Setup]
Lang=en
Dir=C:\Program Files (x86)\AOMEI Backupper
Group=AOMEI Backupper
NoIcons=0
Tasks=desktopicon

Is there anything to supply license key also?

Thanks

Backupper: Create Bootable Media is driving me crazy

$

Ok, so I set out to create a bootable USB drive to restore a cloned image to new hardware. Start Backupper, go to Utilities and select 'Create Bootable Media'. I select Windows PE, because the Linux media doesn't support UEFI boot. Check 'Create UEFI bootable disc". Select the flash drive and things start processing. After some time, the creation-windows just vanishes. USB drive unusable. Tried a couple of times without luck. So, instead of creating the USB drive at once, I choose to export to ISO file and use Rufus to create a bootable UEFI drive. Set Rufus to GPT, UEFI and NTFS as file system.
Try to boot from this USB drive and it fails: "Could not locate 'EFI\boot\bootx64.efi': (14) not found". Can't figure out if this is a problem of Rufus or the ISO file.

So, again with Rufus, I recreate the USB boot drive, but this time I choose FAT32 instead of UEFI. Plug it in and notice I cant select a UEFI boot drive.

And time passes - I've been trying now for about three hours and getting pretty frustrated. So I'm hoping there's someone out there to tackle this thing?

Inaccessible Boot Device after USB drive clone

$

Hello,
I have an ASUS TS10 Stick PC with 32GB onboard storage.
Microsoft, with its latest Windows 10 feature update has made 32GB devices problematic -
they do not have enough storage to complete the update.
I've used AOEMI Backupper Standard (version unknown, installed 3/1/2018) to clone
the TS10's internal storage to a USB external hard disk drive of larger capacity.
The clone was successful and the GPT partitions on the new drive appear to be exact copies
except the Windows partition was assigned to be drive F: .
(I examined the partitions with another product). In the UEFI BIOS the new drive shows up as:

Windows Boot Manager (my WD drive)

If I change the boot priority to the new drive and attempt to boot I receive the
  Inaccessible Boot Device blue screen.

My first question regards some online comments that claim you can't boot the new, cloned USB drive
until you physically remove the original drive! Is that true? Obviously I can't do that on a "Stick" PC.
If the USB drive should boot what might be the problem? I've seen quite a few posts about that error
but few mention cloning from a device with a storage card to an USB external hard disk. Could I need
to update or change my UEFI BIOS? I have a list of other things to try, but you might be able to save me some time.

Thanks
