Question about System Backup & Disk Backup with dis-similar hardware

$

Let's say I have 2 disks installed in my Windows 2008 R2 called C:\ drive & D drive.

Now the quickest/safest way to backup is to use a boot disk & select Disk Backup and then select both C:\ drive & D drive does this mean that if I do the backup this way will it still be possible to restore using Universal Restore for the OS Drive (C:\)?

(If not possible please advise the best way to backup in this situation guessing a System Backup on C:\ drive & then a Disk Backup on D drive, please confirm)

Additional Follow up questions:-

1. Can a Disk Backup which contains an OS drive (C:\) be converted into a system backup ?

(I did a backup of a C:\ using both Disk Backup & System Backup & noticed only a 1KB difference is size between the two backup types possible just a flag to tell the AOMEI application it's a System backup which might be easy to apply this flag to existing Disk Backups)

If you cannot convert a disk backup to system backup and you wanted Universal Restore options could you do a "Disk Backup" restore of C:\ & then do a backup again using "System Backup" I know this is a extremely long way round but if you got existing backups and want to restore to dis-similar hardware this might be my only option.

Thanks
Jeremy

AOMEI Backupper Pro. Why do I get a such heavy file? help!

Hi, I have a new laptop with Windows 10 and after having installed some custom programs now I would like to do a backup on an external harddrive. I inform you that the SSD of the laptop is 512 GB occupied with only 140 GB. I made a backup and the file I got is 386 GB. Why so heavy? I'd like to restore that file when my laptop will no longer work properly and instead of reformatting and installing all the custom programs, with that file I can put both the OS and all the programs back into it. I chose "Partition Backup" which I then saved on "D" which is an external hardisk. Thanks

The backup driver works improperly, you could restart the computer to solve the problem.
I have restarted - fail
remove program, re installed - fail
follow every idea ever presented on this problem
fail....

Create Backupper USB boot including Partition Assistant?

The ability to create bootable USB/CD is really great. However it's not very flexible if you want more software included in the disk, for instance Part. Assist. to also be able to fix partition errors without booting into the OS.

I've tried mounting the WIM file with DISM, copying in the PA software to Program Files and saving the image. However when trying to launch it from the cmd prompt in Backupper, it complains that PartAssist.exe cannot run on this system. So I suspect I need the 32-bit version of PA, correct? Or is there another way to manage this?

It would be great if Backupper could detect if PA is installed with a valid license, and ask to include it in the bootable disk.

Recovery Partition FYI

In the past, I've made note on this forum that when doing a SYSTEM restore, the Recovery Partition is not copied over. This is supposedly to allow you to expand your C (OS drive) to the right to use all the space on the disk you want, assuming there is (was) unused free space to the right of the Recovery Partition. That partition is not necessary as long as you made a Windows Recovery CD or USB as it contains all the same information and functions that were in that partition.
I recently updated to the new Win 10 1803 version, and to my surprise, it reinstalled the Recovery Partition that had previously been deleted when I did a SYSTEM backup restore (in lieu of a disk clone) to a new SSD. This is not the "factory" made restore partition, but just the Microsoft one. I have not tested to see if it works, but it's there.
So basically, even if you lose the Recovery Partition when doing a SYSTEM restore, it seems you'll get it back when you apply the next Windows 6 month product update (for Win 10).

What is the first thing comes to your mind when you see AOMEI?

Backupper Network not showing uncontrolled PC

Hi all,
Please can anybody help me?
I had this odd behaviour:
after the installation of the Backupper client on the network PCs, the PCs were visible in Backupper Network/Computers tab and available for control, but after attempting the get the control of the first in the list using username and password, Backupper Network stopped responding and the entire list disappeared and there is no way to get it back.
I tried to uninsitall/reinstall Backupper Network but with no luck, the list is still unavailable.
Any suggestion to solve the problem?
All PCs are are running Windows 10 including the one with Backupper Network.
Thanks
Marco

Aomei Backupper asks for deinstallation on update

Hi,

I only want to update Backupper to the latest version. When I'm trying to do so, Setup asks me if I want to uninstall Backupper.

Why would that be so, and is that intended?

How do I solve this message when Aomei is checking backup image:

Information Code:4104

Invalid image file. This file may be not complete or has been damaged, or it does not match with the current software version.

Error finding volume after restore

Error messages:
The specified volume 0 hasn't been found or has been changed.
The specified volume 1(C:) hasn't been found or has been changed.

Found out it is after RESTORE is made.

It is not possible to make an incremental backup, for example, of one previously used for a restore. And NO, it is not possible to make a FULL backup either using the same task after a restore.

Maybe some identifications are changed or replaced when restores are made, but that should not happen!

Has anybody done a performance analysis of the different compression types?

$

Until now, I've always done my AOMEI backups to a NAS, so I've used max compression to keep the file sizes small.  I'm moving to a combination of local backups and network backups, so I have AOMEI now writing images to a removable drive.  On the first machine, I set the target to the USB drive and turned compression off just to see what happened.  Overall, CPU utilization seems to be MUCH lower (60% or more on average, which totally makes sense) but on this machine, writing the backup file seems to actually SLOWER (4MB/s vs. almost 7MB/s with compression).  This test machine only has USB 2.0 ports but I wouldn't think that would be the bottleneck considering I was using this drive with compression on.  Has anybody done any testing with this to determine the best compression type based on destination media and connectivity?

Hi, sorry about my English.

AOMEI tells me this error code, but this code does not appear in the AOIMEI list.

It also does not work when making a Bootable CD or USB.

Help me please. Thank you

Information Code:4148

Because the system partition exists in a dynamic disk, you need to make a bootable CD and boot computer from the bootable CD, and then clone disks or partitions. Or you can go to Utilities -> Create Bootable Media and make a Windows PE bootable CD (not Linux Bootable CD) and try again. For more information, please refer to FAQ: http://www.backup-utility.com/help/faq.html

Hello,

I am using Win10 last update 1803
I tried to create a PE sytem with some drivers but it doesn't take them.
If I use backupper to create the recovery disk, it takes the drivers.
I use the same drivers for the 2 systems
I redownload the PE environment from Aomei
I can't find why it doesn't work.
Any ideas ?

Thank you

I am purchasing this software for a client.
The client needs to install AOMEI Backupper on many PC at once.
Is there a way to do a silent install?
I mean installing the software without any prompts to the user so we can easily deploy it.
I looked in the forums and found the following switches, but they appear not to work anymore
/VERYSILENT /NORESTART /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /SP-

Please let me know how to proceed,
Many thanks

When I try to restore an image I took from an identical computers SSD disk, it takes forever at "Analyzing Volume".

I don't remember seing this behaviour before. Is there something I can do to make it skip this part and continue with the restore?

Thanks.
