Restoring system image via USB 3.0 port not working (usb 2.0 does)

Hi all,

Equipment:

1x PCI Express 4 Port USB 3.0 PCIe Controller Card (with SATA Power) [product link] [latest dirver v4.90a].

1x 16GB USB 3.0 Sandisk Extreme Pen drive containing the windows 7 system image backup file.

1x 4GB USB 2.0 Generic Pen Drive containing Windows PE bootdisk with VIA drivers loaded sucessfully:

image

I've been testing a Windows 7 Ultimate x64 image that I created recently after a clean install.

The bootdisk loads without issues and no errors. It doesn't clarify if the VIA USB 3.0 drivers have been loaded though.

At step 2 of the system restore, when clicking on path to select the system image file; if my Sandisk Extreme 16GB pen drive is in one of the USB 3.0 ports on the PCIe card, it will not appear in my computer.

However, when connected to a USB 2.0 port via the motherboard; it appears and I can restore the image fine.

Please help me to get this working on my USB 3.0 ports as the time it would take to restore would be greatly reduced.

Also, the system image is being written to an SSD drive (AHCI is set in my bios). I have the Asus P6T motherboard if you need to know this.

Thank you in advance.

disk backup vs. system backup

gents,

a newbie - so this question is perhaps trivial but i don't understand.

my laptop is a w7-64bit w/ssd having 148gb of storage wit 112gb 'used' and 36.2gb 'free'

i did a 'system backup' and then a 'disk backup'.

the 'system backup' tok 75,278,825kb

the 'disk backup' took 75,105,285kb

these numbers should be much different, yes? the 'disk backup' in general should be larger than the 'system backup', yes?

is there a way to compare the lists of the folders that were part of each of the backups? i took the backups using whatever aomei had as defaults - i made no changes - this was my first test. so i'm curious what aomei would back up in each case.

so, i apologize for the low level of the question; but i'm trying to learn.

please steer me to what i should read/research to come up the curve.

thanks,

After Disk Clone the main partitions of source and destination disks became RAW

I am using AOMEI Backupper Standard version 4.0.2. I did a Disk Clone using Disk2 (HDD, internal, 500GB) as source and Disk1 (HDD, internal, 1TB) as destination. At the end of Disk Clone the main partitions of both source and destination became RAW as can be seen in the Disk Manager screenshot below.

Windows to go Creator and Windows 8.1 ISO's

I can create a W2G USB drive from W8.0 and W10 ISO's but not from W8.1.  I prefer 8.1 because I have a couple of currently unused retail cd keys.  W2G Creator will create a working drive on an external SATA USB3 drive, but not on any of several USB thumb drives.  When I boot a W2G8.1 thumb drive, it just displays the Windows Logo, with a spinning circle of dots below.  I have let that run overnight (several times) with no change.  The Windows 8.0 ISO's have an install.wim file, and both W8.1 and W10 have install.esd files, yet W10 works and W8.1 doesn't.   Anybody know how to sucessfully create a working W2G8.1?

System versus disk backup

I know this topic has been addressed in the forums, the user manual, tutorials, etc., but I'd like to make a simple clarification and I want to be sure what I'm saying is correct.  Am I correct in summarizing the difference like this:

"A system backup is just a subset of a disk backup.".

By this I mean that if I do a disk backup on the drive containing my operating system, I get a backup of all partions on the disk, including the operating system, any data files on the disk, as well as the boot sectors.  Thus, if this drive fails, I can use this backup to restore my system onto a new, replacement disk drive, and restoring this backup will result in a bootable disk, as if the failure never happened.  Is this a correct assertion?

Bug: Disk Backupper Freezes the System

Hi,
my system freezes completely while trying to make disc image backups from my system drive (full backup).
I use Windows 10 x64 on a lenovo ThinkPad T540p, and a Samsung SSD with basic disc layout.
The Problem is independent of using VSS or AOMEIs own alternative.
Backupper writes around 25 MB to the external (USB3) hard drive, and according to Windows Resource Monitor it reads a lot of data with maximum speed from system-ssd, but don't write anything to the target drive. After some minutes Backuper stops reading from source-ssd. The system drive is somehow completely locked for any writes, but system tasks reads data from the disc. Because of the ongoing write lock the system freezes and i need to make a hard reset. I am somehow perplexed.

Thank you for any help.

Clone C(XP) to D, then Make C Win 10. Dual Boot??

Moving a still excellent laptop from WinXP to Win10. Big drive with multiple partitions already in place and running.

Steps I plan to take:

1) Image C Partition to safe location. Verify restorable = Completed.

2) Clone C Partition to D Partition = next step

3) Ensure MBR is altered somehow to permit Dual Boot choice ***

4) Verify that both C and D boots function

5) Install Win10 on C

So for Step 3 I am unsure if the free version of Backupper will give me a utility to update/upgrade the boot loader to permit dual booting. If so, please either link existing documentation on how to do so or indicate if it's a simple menu choice of Backupper once installed.

Thanks!

Dissimilar hardware support with Image Deployment

We are testing the free Image Deployment software and so far - its great.

We are interested in perhaps buying the tech version in order to use the Dissimilar hardware support feature.
Can someone tell us how the Dissimilar hardware support works?   We have 4 sets of 5 computers with different hardware. How in the world would we restore to all of those with various drivers, etc.

Backupper 4.0.2 CD System restore fails to read ADI file, says "Not implemented"

Please reply ASAP, I am stuck.

Yesterday I used Backupper 4.0.2  in Windows 10 (build 1607, 64-bit) to create a new system backup to a USB 2.0 connected hard disk. The backup, and verification, completed with no errors reported.

Today, I tried to use a previously created 4.0.2 bootable CD to restore the system  backup I had created.  The CD boots, Backupper loads, and I choose Restore. Apparently the Backupper CD finds my copy of Backupper on the C: drive, because the backup I had created appears in the Task List, but it cannot find the image file. So I click Path and browse to the ADI file on the USB drive. But when I select it and click Open, a dialog box appears titled Open with this error message:

System Backup(3).adi

Not implemented

and an OK button. So I'm stuck.

Questions before purchase

I have been testing this over the past few days as a solution for a few of our servers andjust have a few questions regarding how the server operates with a fewdifferent things as we are quite keen to implement something like this for atleast two of our customers, possibly more.

One of thequestions that I have is to know exactly how the software, if it runsincremental backups, works with exchange on SBS servers. Will it notice thechange in size of the Exchange database and completely backup the database eachnight? or does it work in a different way and only backup files that havechanged with the database?

Another question that I have is how can I configure the software to back up multiple backup drives, that are swapped without a guaranteed schedule?

Can i schedule a weekly full backup to run?

When restoring a full system image with the removable media, will i need to create the media with the machine that i want to recover? Or can this disk be created with a different machine and then used for any restore?

Sorry for such a long post, i just want to make sure that the product will work exactly how i need it to before we go ahead and buy it.

Thanks in advance

Karl

when i try to backup a partition using command line Ambackup.exe it keeps complaining in a Message about [no Disk In The Floppy Drive A: Insert A disk In The Drive A:], And this message has three buttons to choose from: [cancel, retry, continue]

whatever button i pressed the command will fail and this prevents me from accomplishing the backup task.

my command is as follow:

Ambackup.exe /b new /t part /s d /d "e:\MySecondPart"  /n "Backup My Second Partition"

please is there any workaround or a switch to add to prevent Ambackup.exe from checking floppy drives.

Does backupper pro have an option to remember network credentials to access a remote network drive when doing backups? Or do I have to enter the credentials every time I run a backup?

Backup/Restore Software Install

I'm new to AOMEI, so please be gentle.

Assuming I make a disk backup to an external drive and also create a boot disk, there's something I don't understand. Here's the scenario, my C drive crashes out for whatever reason, I boot from the boot disk and I can then restore my C drive from the disk image. But... how do I run AOMEI from the boot disk?, is it written onto the boot disk?, or do I need to install it onto the boot disk?, or do I need to install it onto the external drive?, how would I install it?

Error code 34 full disk backup

$

Hi,

I am having a serious issue trying to restore a full disk backup i performed some months ago. Once the software checked the image integrity and just a second after starting to copy the data to the destination disk i get an error code 34. The thing is the destination disk is brand new and also i checked it for bad sector using HDD Regenerator and found no one.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? I really need to restore this backup.

Thanks in advance
