I have just run partition recovery on a NTFS 931.51Gb drive connected via a USB port to my laptop the drive is from a failed desktop. It has found 9 of which 8 partitions marked as boot the first two are logical the next three are primary the last four are logical. When I try to explore the partitions the majority show a folder named System Volume Information. The forth partition (not marked as Boot) contains folders: $recycle.bin, ISOS and System Volume Information. As I cannot view the contents of any of the folders listed on any of the partitions I am at a loss to know what to do next, should I merge the partitions two by two until I just have one logical and one primary? The interigation of the partitions took nearly nine hours to complete, so I am reluctant to make the wrong move and the help file does not give me a clue how to proceed.
Furthermore a message says "The selected partition overlaps with existing partitions, please re-select" on every partition.
On a slightly different tack windows 8.1 has locked another 1Tb drive and the windows recovery software can not fix the problem saying "unlock the drive and try again", I have searched the web a lot of users are having the same issue for multiple reasons, but none of the solutions offered work. Can Partition Assistant Profestional help with this issue?
I am sorry if my questions seem niaive, but please help if you can. Thanks
